All sound & music is, on a base level, just wobbling molecules in air (or liquid or solid if we’re getting technical). @helenczerski.bsky.social explains the physics of how we hear things in the ep 1 of For the Record: An Incomplete History of Music, free to watch now www.youtube.com/watch?v=quj8...
"Standing here in the air at the moment I am surrounded by wobbling molecules and you know there might be a dog over there that's barking and it that sends that this wobble through the air there's another one you know might be a boat over there that's arriving from over there so the air around my head is wobbling in all these different ways and the task for my ears is to separate those different wobbles to separate the noise of a boat from the noise of a dog and to know which direction it's coming from."
