The Bills offense was *extremely* good out of multiple TE sets last year—but didn’t use them much for a few reasons. On the pod, @proant.bsky.social and I discussed why Buffalo will likely boost their 12 and 13 personnel usage this year, and why DJ Moore is a factor. 📺: youtu.be/oleFvEs773A?...
"DJ Moore might actually allow them to lean more on the more on those multiple tight end sets. Yes, I think so because he gives you somebody on the outside that no disrespect to other bills receivers from previous years, but he gives them someone that you have to account for on the outside in some capacity. He can still win one on one, whether it's down the field or like you said, underneath it could be in there in the intermediate. He gives you someone that you have to account for in some way. And if you don't, that's fine. Then he can beat you one on one and the bills can take that. The bills had a 12.7% 22 personnel rate last year, which was first in the league. And then an 8.9% 21 personnel rate, which was 10th. Both of those are going to drop just because Gilliam isn't there. Your next thought would be okay. Then your other main ones, 11 personnel is going to go up. 12 is going to go up. 13 is going to go up. If Kincaid is healthy, 12 and 13 should probably go up even more. I also think you could get Jackson Hawes in some fullback type stuff. Like he did at Georgia Tech. That'll skew the personnel usage because he's doing fullback stuff, but he's a tight end. He functions well with that. And I do think that they'll be better in 11 personnel this year, because now you can go with 11 and trot out more Palmer and Shakir. We'll see what you get from Skyler Bell, see what you get from Keon. But not only with this being like the meta of the league with more tight ends and heavy personnel, I think the bills need to live in more 12 and 13. Because with this 12 and 13 grouping, plus the addition of DJ Moore, there's so much multiplicity. Those tight ends are on the field. With this Bill's run game, the power run game, as a defense, you're not going to play light. You'll play light against that group. Fine. That's going to lead to explosives because they're going to get those guys on linebackers. They're going to face, you know, get the matchups that they want. I just think that similar to what you saw Seattle really and LA hit explosives when they put tight ends on the field. There's real potential for that with Moore as your receiver, Kincaid. To kind of put a pin on this, do I think DJ Moore is top 10, 15 receiver in league? No, I don't. But I think his skillset is what they desperately needed."
