"I'm going to bring you straight away an update to a story we were talking about just a little earlier. A lawyer for a high-profile Palestinian doctor who's been held in Israeli detention without charge for 18 months says he's in a critical condition and we spoke to campaigners who are urging his release and at the time that we spoke to them we said we were waiting for a specific direct response from the Israelis here. We now have that they say this Hussam Abu Safiyah who is the doctor pictured here was apprehended for suspected involvement in terrorist activities and for holding a rank in the Hamas terror organisation while hundreds of Hamas and Islamic Jihad terrorists were hiding inside the Kamal Adwan hospital under his management. So Kamal Adwan hospital is the hospital where he worked as a doctor and the accusation here from the Israelis is that whilst under his management hundreds of Hamas and Islamic Jihad terrorists were hiding inside that hospital and they say that he held a rank in the Hamas terror organisation so that is the response and the defence from the Israelis whereas the campaigners for Dr Hussam are calling for him to be released from custody and to be released because especially his health has apparently deteriorated. They say he's in a critical condition."
