Mayor Zohran Mamdani visited one of the city’s newly launched “COOL vans” (Cooling Outreach On-Location) on Friday. A total of 21 vans across the city will provide New Yorkers with medical care, hydration, sunscreen, food and transport to cooling centers.
"We have food, fruits, chips, sunscreen, electrolytes for the water, and we have the water in here as well. That's great. The cooler, because the ice is there, so make sure you get enough water with ice in here. That's great. Keep it nice and cool. They come inside in the cooler center for a few minutes or as much as they need to get cool and stay hydrated. Where do they typically sit? They sit anywhere between here and there. Any spot they want. As long as it's available. And then we always have the emergency kit right there, you know, with everything we need. First aid kit."
