"Donald Trump's effort to overturn Fuller and Baligan's red card in the World Cup has created a firestorm across the globe this morning. First, Belgium has been granted a right to appeal the decision, which means it's not necessarily final. FIFA is now once again reviewing its suspension of the red card. UEFA, which is Europe's governing body for soccer, has blasted the decision, calling it crossing a red line, saying it is incomprehensible and unjustifiable. It comes as Trump officials are openly bragging about the fact that Trump's influence likely led to Baligan's red card being suspended. Taking a step back, a red card, if you don't know what that is, in soccer, is an egregious foul. If you get a red card in one game, you're suspended for the next game. And yet here, the US star player's red card suspension was suspended so he can play tonight after the White House reached out to FIFA. But it wasn't just the White House reaching out. There was a full-on pressure campaign by Howard Lutnick, the Commerce Secretary, the President of the United States, who called FIFA multiple times. And now you're in a situation where European countries, countries across the globe, are furious. They're saying that this FIFA tournament is not fair anymore, all because the United States got involved on behalf of its star player.
