We have to start regulating AI and Big Tech like the product it is. We’ve made some great progress in Michigan, but we need our federal partners to do the same.

"We really need to have federal legislation that covers all 50 states because we know that of course something that is generated uh in a place like Ohio can easily make itself can easily cross borders into Michigan and of course across all 50 states so it's really important it's great that we have legislation in the state and we you know we need to get this stuff passed but we need to have congress act as well. I would also just add it kind of as we take a step backwards tech companies social media platforms AI all of it has gotten away with the argument that they're not responsible for what people do with their product and they lean too heavily on section 230 and we need real reforms on section 230 because the companies particularly social media say we're just platform that's it what people choose to put on it and how they choose to use it that's up to them and we can't possibly be held responsible for regulating that and they've gotten away with incredible incredible damage so that has to be something that the federal government needs to take on needs to acknowledge that it is a product think about a state like Michigan we would never accept a car that gets sold to the public before it goes through crash tests before it goes through safety tests before it gets seatbelts before it gets airbags and oh by the way if something goes wrong with it there are recalls there is recourse there is legal action that the attorney general that lawyers can take to protect citizens we treat tech as if it's this magical nebulous thing it's a product they're making money and the federal government needs to step up and start regulating it like a product because it is"

What regulation? Tech and data centers in communities are scary to people when we don’t understand them.
