A different perspective on the Argentina hate.
"People hate on Argentina for real reasons. The pompous fans, the Eurocentrism that can be racist at times, the hating on the GOAT, the Nazi refuge, which has now become a refuge for Peter Thiel, another Nazi, Javier Millet, the libertarian psychopath who is besties with Elon Musk and now the president of Argentina. I'm not here to tell you to stop hating, but as a fan and a journalist who reported inside the country, remember that what you see abroad is not who the country is made up of. And those who can travel to the United States and buy a ticket to the World Cup are not the campesinos or the indigenous Argentines, the Mapuche, the Guarani, of which half of the country has indigenous roots. In addition to the decimated but existent Afro-Argentine community or the newer Chinese, Peruvian, Bolivian, Paraguayan Argentines that make up more recent waves of immigration. Argentina has long been a place of deep resistance to colonialism, dictatorship and neocolonialism in the form of neoliberal economics, the World Bank, the IMF. In 2001, when Argentina's economy crashed due to their extreme privatization and debt, they took to the streets and ousted five presidents in two weeks under the slogan ¡Que se vayan todos! They all must go. Their recent Green-Panuelo feminist movement rocked the country and won abortion rights for all. When looking at the best of Argentina, you've got to look at Diego Maradona, the superstar Argentine who was born in a shanty town, who has always been proud of having Guarani blood, who had faced a lot of racism and classism through his career. That momentous mano de Dios, the handball against England, was perhaps the most resounding anti-colonial moment against a country that tried very much to colonize Argentina. And then, under Margaret Thatcher and the Argentine military junta, killed hundreds of Argentines in the Falklands or Malvinas War. That was an F-U colonizer move. In fact, in Argentina, there's a chant that goes The person who doesn't jump is an Englishman. It's incredible to experience live. Yes, there's a lot of Italian ancestry in Argentina, but the Italians who went to Argentina were working class, often communists and socialists, and even founded some of the country's first football clubs. The Argentina Juniors Club, for example, used to be called, Get this, in honor of the Haymarket Massacre in the United States. I'm not trying to say not all Argentines, but not all Argentines. Imagine if Americans were judged by just the people who can travel abroad. Argentina is a country with deep populist and pro-union roots that their current president is trying to undo. And yes, it's that Eurocentric curse that too often holds Argentines back from their full greatness. Anyway,"
