FIFA's decision to suspend Folarin Balogun's suspension came as a genuine shock. Now comes the fallout. I discussed the relationship between Donald Trump and Gianni Infantino that seems to have bled onto the field in one of this tournament's most controversial moments. 📺

"This is FIFA very clearly trying to maintain that, hey, this decision panel is independent, that we were, hey, we were not influenced by any call from the White House or a call from President Trump. That is what this statement is all about. It is FIFA President Gianni Infantino trying to make clear to everyone that that is their stance on the matter. The heart of this really is, is do you believe it or not? Right? How much, how, how much influence was exerted by the White House on this sort of thing? How much did that actually factor into FIFA's decision? It would seem like there has been some influence here. Undoubtedly, there has been crossover from the White House into this decision from FIFA. Donald Trump has said as much. The question is, well, why did FIFA make this happen? And this is a relationship between FIFA President Gianni Infantino and President Trump that has been going on for years now. These two have been, have been together multiple times. Donald Trump was on the field of the club world cup final last year, last summer, handing out trophies to players after Chelsea had lifted that trophy. Reportedly, Donald Trump will be involved in the world cup final trophy presentation as well. These two have interacted a lot over the years. There is a relationship there. And it certainly seems like that relationship has bled into now the sporting side of this competition, which again is basically unprecedented."
