"Chuing Ek is a site in Dankau on the outskirts of Phnom Penh, capital of Cambodia, that was used as a killing field between 1977 and 1979 by Khmer. Rooted to perpetrate Cambodian genocide, 19,653 mass grave sites have been identified across Cambodia. Many victims were former officials of the Khmer Republic, members of the armed forces, intellectuals, professionals, teachers, religious figures, and civilians accused of political disloyalty or association with foreign governments. The killings formed part of the Cambodian genocide, in which an estimated to millions people died through execution, forced labor, starvation, and disease under the rule of the Communist Party of Cambodia led by Pol Pot."
