The Big Ugly Bill has made life MORE expensive for American families. That's the legacy of the Trump-Republican majority.
"A year ago this week, Donald Trump signed what he called the big, beautiful bill. And one year later, hard-working families are paying the price. Here are the facts. This bill took healthcare away from millions of Americans, including 28,000 in my district. In the past year, more than 8 million Americans have lost healthcare because of this law. Tens of millions more have had premiums skyrocket, making life even more unaffordable. Across the country, hundreds of hospitals serving millions of patients are at risk of closing. As a physician, I have seen the devastating effect of Republican-led cuts to healthcare and the devastating effect that they've had on patients. It has caused severe damage and harm to Illinois' first congressional district. 400,000 persons in Illinois are now facing food insecurity across the state of Illinois. And the truth is that the money was borrowed for the purpose of giving a tax cut to people who were neither asking for it nor needed it. It's really a shame my Republican colleagues are actually celebrating the one-year anniversary of what I call the big ugly bill. There's no reason that the super wealthy in America are receiving enormous tax cuts and you and the working men and women and the families of America are forced to pay for it. The rich keep getting richer, the powerful more powerful under their policies and working class individuals and families are struggling. This legislation has made life more expensive for people all across the country. That's their legacy."
