"Upon his arrival in Ankara, the NATO Secretary General addressed the issue that has divided the alliance for years, financial contributions. At the last summit, Allies had committed to raising their defence budgets to 5% of their gross domestic product. Just one year into a 10-year project, we see that European Allies and Canada are already investing around 4% of their GDP in defence and security. According to the Secretary General, this increase in budgets will unlock contracts worth tens of billions of dollars with one goal, to produce more weapons and high-tech equipment. It's the kind of European military build-up that Donald Trump has long called for, as just this past Friday he was questioning the very future of the alliance. This summit will therefore test NATO's unity, particularly over the war in Ukraine. Just ahead of the meeting, Moscow claimed responsibility for a wave of heavy bombings that killed at least 15 people in Kiev. Yet, the US President hopes to revive peace efforts. President Putin wants it to end, I will tell you that very strongly, a good call, and President Zelensky actually wants it to end now. And we're going to be going to NATO and we're going to be talking about it. Trump is set to meet with Zelensky as the Ukrainian President continues to condemn the escalating Russian attacks. This is typical of Putin. Right after US Independence Day and before the NATO summit in Ankara, Russia wants to wreak havoc and kill people. He is calling for the transfer of Patriot missile licenses. If Washington gives the green light, Ukraine could manufacture these powerful missiles on its own soil to defend itself against Russia."
