"I'm Tyler Auxt and I'm a government and community vitality educator with Michigan State University Extension and I'm here at Public Media Network today to talk a little bit about the city of Kalamazoo's government and some of the types of government in Michigan. So first thing to keep in mind, the state of Michigan and our federal government, the United States had the dual sovereignty you may have learned about in grade school. But within the state of Michigan, we have our counties, 83 across the two peninsulas and then within each of those counties for local governments we have townships, villages and cities. Kalamazoo County specifically, that would be 15 townships, 5 villages and 4 cities."
