Opening night of the high school football season is still about a month and a half away, but the work has already begun for teams throughout Middle Georgia. The coaches are making sure their guys are as ready as can be once full padded practices are allowed at the end of July. For the East Lawrence football team, these early morning practices are all about consistency. That word was used constantly Wednesday morning in East Dublin as the Falcons look to build on a three-win season from a year ago. Head coach Jesse Hicks is entering his third season as the leader of this squad. He says creating a winning culture at East Lawrence is going to take each and every player to continue putting the work in. One thing he sees so far in this camp is that his players have consistently progressed from year one to year three. For Hicks, the goals are simple. Win the first game, win the region, go to state, and bring home a state championship. But in order to get that done, Hicks says everybody needs to buy in, work hard, and keep striving to get better. You never get to a point where you're at a state of satisfaction. The work has to be done. There's a level to work to get to be good. I say a lot of people want rings, but they don't want reps. A lot of people want championships, but they don't want the work that comes along with the championships. Everybody want to win on Friday, but nobody want the Monday run and the conditioning. So that's a mindset. Just come in every day, like I said, work hard, be consistent. Just do those things. I feel like we can get there. It's very important because we've always been underestimated, so consistency is the way out if we want to win a state championship. We got to work hard at practice. We got to run hard, live hard. We putting in the hard work, the dedication. We just got to execute it on Friday nights. The Falcons will hit the field Friday, August 21st, as they kick off the regular season at home against Johnson County."
