Speed limiting devices coming to every vehicle? License suspensions are an effective deterrent? These are some of the misleading claims and outright lies promoted in a recent video from Car Coach. Thanks for giving the opportunity to set the record straight! 📽️📽️

"Speed-limiting device coming to every vehicle? Thank you to Car Coach for the opportunity to debunk some misconceptions about stop superspeeders legislation. Someone has truly demonstrated dangerous behavior behind the wheel. Perhaps the answer isn't a speed limiter. Perhaps the answer is losing your driving privileges altogether. What a concept. If our current system worked, we wouldn't be seeing this much harm caused by those driving on suspended licenses. It's well known that license suspensions are not an effective deterrent to getting behind the wheel. And there are countless examples of the tragedies that this leads to. This isn't isolated anymore. This is becoming transportation policy. For decades, traffic enforcement worked in a certain way. You broke the law, you got the ticket. You repeatedly broke the law, you lost your license. Responsibility remained with the driver. Now that focus has changed. And how has that transportation policy of relying on driver responsibility worked out for us? Pedestrian fatalities across the U.S. remain at unacceptably high levels, nearly twice as high as they were in 2009. The people writing these laws are usually not automotive experts. They're legislators, they're activists, they're bureaucrats, and some of them are listening very closely to their lobbyists. That means there's probably money behind it. It's hard to not laugh at these claims. In reality, these laws are indeed written by safety advocates, which include people who lost loved ones to traffic violence, like our founder, Amy Cohen, whose 12-year-old son, Sammy, was killed by a speeding driver in 2013. More policies would stand to benefit with these perspectives at the forefront. Get the facts at familiesforsafestreet.org."
