"When we were thinking about the 250th and how do we celebrate that, there are stories of celebration and also tension obviously with Native communities around what was the bicentennial in 1976 and then of course now veterans are a huge part of celebration and ceremony within Native communities and are often revered and have their own societies within these communities. So it is something that that aspect of the U.S. and being a warrior for this country is one that is very deep-seated in so many Native communities. We can really see so much about the lives of these Native women. So a woman from more than 100 years ago and then a woman of today and really about what Native women have experienced and we can see that through these dresses of really how there is so much honor and beauty and how the regalia that they're wearing and what that represents for Native people. Especially when we're looking at 250 years and we are still here and so many of the policies were to assimilate or even terminate us as a race. So it's wonderful to be able to see those. These may have been produced in the late 1800s, early 1900s, how we've persevered through this and we're still here and we're still celebrating and we're still a major part of the U.S. landscape."
