"My name is James Fowey, and I narrated the part of Jefferson in Portraits of Decay by J.R. Blaine's There are two things that I thought most about When helping to tell Jefferson's part of this story one is The idea of what is lurking outside of New Orleans the thrilling magic that seems to be built into the fabric of the place and The dark turn that it takes just at the edge of the city as you would start to go into the swamps That's something that's unique to that place And I'm always interested in stories that have anything to do with the voodoo tradition and the spirits or Loa That are a part of it the other besides that part of the atmosphere that's working on everyone there is The question of agency and Jefferson's story really dives into that the influence not just of magic on his life but of his relationships and the effect of money on him his passion for his art the love he has for the women in his life all of that is a maelstrom he finds himself and and Watching him try to navigate that as a flawed character that you can root for It's very compelling Both to read I think and certainly to perform The photos were clear and defined the doorway into Nevaeh's world one specific photo chilled Jefferson despite the humidity a swarm of flies crawling along a metal door an Insectile buzz filled his ears the rank odor of shit lingered beneath the smell of disinfectant Blinking fluorescent lighting flashed in his eyes as darkness closed in from all sides cold fingers pushed through his skin and seeped into his body as if he'd plunged into icy waters Jefferson shook off the dreadful feeling and the room returned to normal Is this what disturbed you about your visit? He asked Nevaeh nodded refusing to look at the photo What is it? the room of a patient a woman named Angelique What happened to her? I'm not sure Once again Nevaeh shivered And I don't think I want to know"
