"The components of fruit jams are grown on bushes and trees. These are important for many ecosystems as they create homes and food for their inhabitants, and also work as a type of defence to allow these creatures to be free. The industrialisation of this sector has increased the yields through practices like monocultures and insecticides, but eventually it seems that these have seriously impeded growth on any field. There are reasons for this. Monocultures for one can grow much more of that one specific fruit or vegetable, but if an insect or any other type of pest finds a specific weakness of that plant's seed, all will be wiped out and the farmer's loss will be much more than just a small drop. Insecticides were invented due to practices like this, to fight such threats. But it turns out that insects are not just a threat for the crops, but also their pollinators, which are essential for any growth. So in the long term, insecticides or pesticides create much more of a debt. Eventually it's been realised that organic processes are the best. Instead of insecticides, using hedgehogs work very well against slugs and temperate regions of the world. Or at a completely different extreme, but still the same. Bee hives protect crops from elephants in Africa or India. This we do not jest. Also it means the food is much healthier when sold, as synthetic chemicals are not sprayed. Therefore these we do not need to digest."
