"Do you want to support your local teachers or students in need this back to school season but don't know how to do it beyond Amazon wish lists? You're in the right place. This has cut off the spigot where normally I take a look at where else to shop besides Target, Amazon, Walmart, other big corporations and private equity firms, but today I'm looking at ways to get back. AdoptAClassroom.org, rated 100% on Charity Navigator and founded in 1998. AdoptAClassroom enables teachers to create a classroom page where people can donate to reach a particular goal. There aren't specific item lists like other places, but teachers share what they need help with. Teachers have access to donations as soon as they come in and then they can order from AdoptAClassroom's marketplace, which does not include Amazon. You can search by zip code to find your local classroom to support or donate to the organization directly. DonorsChoose.org, they're rated 100% on Charity Navigator and 93% on Charity Watch. Teachers can create lists for classroom essentials or specific projects which are then funded by community members or general donors. If you create a classroom essentials list as a teacher, your supplies are shipped to you as soon as they're funded, so you don't have to hit a minimum threshold in order to get what you need. While DonorsChoose does use Amazon among other companies to fulfill requests, I believe teachers can select where they want to source their supplies from. And at the end of the day, let's support the teachers. You can search for your local school by zip code to find projects to support near you. Back to School America, rated 97% on Charity Navigator and founded in 2007 in the Chicago area. Now nationwide, Back to School America provides school supplies for teachers and students in need. They do not have lists specific to local schools, but you can gift a kid's supply kit at $35 and a teacher classroom kit at $200. You can also donate in general for whatever amount works for you. Kids in Need Foundation, rated 95% on Charity Navigator and founded in 1995. Kids in Need Foundation supplies students and teachers in the most under-resourced schools, where 50% or more of the students qualify for free or discounted lunch under the National School Lunch Program. If you're a teacher in one of these schools, you can apply for a teacher's supply box. And they have a national network of resource centers where teachers can pick up supplies for free. You can support Kids in Need Foundation through donations, backpack build events, or hosting fundraisers. If you found this helpful, follow me and cut off the spigot. And if you need more ideas on how to get back or want to view my sources, check out my Substack. You can buy them."
