"Nope. Am I the only person that did not like this book? This was arguably one of the most talked about books of last year. I've been putting it off because I read the back and I just knew, I knew I wasn't gonna like it. Basically, it's about this old man, his name is Theo, obviously. He goes to this town named Golden. When he's there, he stumbles upon a cafe that has all these portraits that were painted by a local artist. He decides to buy all the portraits one by one and deliver them to the people that they were painted of. In doing so, he connects with all these people, he gets to know their backstory, and he gives them this gift of getting to see themselves outside of themselves. It's all very profound and beautiful and heartwarming and eye-opening and life-changing and it just didn't work for me. I don't like when a book is pulling at your heartstrings. They know, they're like, this is gonna work and they just grab and grab and grab. If I'm gonna cry in a book, and by the way, I love crying in books, it's because something hits me unexpectedly. There's nothing unexpected here. You know what, I take that back. The ending was unexpected. I actually did like the ending, but everything leading up to it is like someone just like punching you in the face over and over and they're like, feel, feel something! You feel that? Feel, feel, feel! And it's like, okay, I get it. I get it. Also, there's like a lot of religious undertones here, which, you know, is fine, but not my thing. It's just very like Mother Teresa vibes. I don't know. I'm clearly in the minority here. This was like a beloved book last year. Am I crazy? Does anyone else agree with me here? Let me know in the comments."
