"Sometimes the most profound truths come in only two words. Jesus wept. Follow me. I usually think of following Jesus as movement. Going where he goes, serving, ministering, living on mission. But as I've gotten older, some mornings movement isn't always as easy as it used to be. And this morning my old dog reminded me of something. He follows me or my wife everywhere. Not because we're always doing something, but simply because he wants to be near us. Wants to know where we are. He wants to stay close. And I realized that's part of what Jesus means when he says, follow me. Sometimes following isn't accomplishing. Sometimes it's abiding. Sometimes discipleship simply means choosing to stay near Jesus. Listening, trusting, enjoying his presence. Before Jesus sends us anywhere, he invites us to come be with him. Maybe today the best way to follow Jesus is simply stay close."
