"Hi, I'm Michelle Dietrich, Chair of the DNC Council on the Environment and Climate Crisis. And I'm here in Corpus Christi, Texas for the Texas Democratic Party Convention, taking part of this afternoon to witness both the incredible natural beauty of the seashore around Corpus Christi, but also the incredible environmental degradation and environmental injustice wrought by the huge corporations which have their industrial operations here. Every time you open the window, certainly when you get out of the car, you smell the stench of the fossil fuels and the chemicals and the plastics that are being refined, that are being created. And they are using potable water that the local communities now have rationed because there isn't enough because the industry is using it. This has to change! I am really encouraged by some of the local leaders, the mayor of Kaft, Elida Castillo. We need to elect more of them. We need to elect majorities. People have to be valued over profit."
