"Congressman Greg Stubbe says he plans to bring the Yacht Basin project to the desk of Army Corps in D.C. Today he got a look firsthand with Mayor Anderson of the damaged cause four years ago. The boatless marina sits empty. Broken signs, empty posts, and cracked decks remind visitors of the damage caused by Hurricane Ian. Reconstruction sits at a standstill while the city waits for the Army Corps of Engineers to approve permits. It's restricting people from accessing our downtown from the water and the water from downtown, but more importantly, it's a negative economic impact on our downtown. Fort Myers Mayor Kevin Anderson took Congressman Greg Stubbe to see the damage for himself. I'm thankful to the mayor for inviting me down and bringing this to my attention so we can start advocating for this in Washington. It shouldn't take the bureaucracies at the Corps or FEMA. I still have counties in my district that haven't been reimbursed from Hurricane Ian. The project could add restaurants and shops overlooking the Caloosahatchee River. Residents and even the mayor are ready for construction to start soon. The Army Corps of Engineers says they're actively reviewing the permits for this project with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services and the National Marine Fisheries Services covering the Gulf Coast in Fort Myers' Isaiah Soto Gulf Coast News."
