"Then came the Event Horizon Telescope. In 2019, the EHT collaboration released the first image of the bright ring around M87 stars. In 2022, it released the image of Sagittarius A star. These weren't pictures of a singularity, and that matters. The telescope did not photograph a magical point where physics breaks. What it gave us was direct evidence of the region just outside the Event Horizon, where hot material glows while space-time bends light into that now-famous ring and dark center. In other words, we aren't looking at the final mystery yet. We're looking at the last visible edge before the mystery begins. And then there's LIGO, which pushed this whole story into another league. LIGO didn't look at black holes. It listened to space-time itself. When two black holes spiral together and merge, they shake space-time and send out gravitational waves. Those signals arrive with a very specific pattern in spiral, merger, that last part matters a lot, because the ringing after the collision matches what general relativity predicts for a newly formed black hole settling down. So it's not just that black holes exist. Even in violent extreme events, the theory keeps landing the prediction."
