"We recently got back an Indigenous policing report from INAN, which is Indigenous Northern Affairs Committee, and what we heard was that there wasn't enough resources to adequately police Indigenous communities. My question was, was it a good idea to use millions of dollars to go after law-abiding firearm owners' firearms? Quote, several witnesses expressed concerns about the time and resources required for First Nations police forces to participate in the assault-style firearms compensation program given the already limited police resources. As Grant Buckskin, Chief of Police, told committee, it would be a complete waste of resources. We're stretched thin already, and I'm not going to put the community at risk by removing resources from our frontline to oversee something like that. No, it would be a complete waste of resources. Ultimately, some witnesses argued that inadequate resources affected community safety because individuals may undertake criminal activities unreserved knowing that First Nations police forces lack the financial and human resources to respond. Not only is it a waste of resources to go after law-abiding individuals, firearm owners, it's actually preventing police from going after the bad guys. So my question to Mark Carney, why don't you stop spending billions going after the good guys and spend some money going after the bad guys?"
