China and Taiwan were bracing for possibly the most destructive tropical storm in years as Typhoon Bavi churned southeast of Taiwan, with winds near 124 mph, and as parts of China were still reeling from Typhoon Maysak. Angie Teo has more.
"Currently spanning across 1000 km at its widest point, Super Typhoon Bavi is expected to make a landfall at where I'm standing now, in northern Taiwan. Now Taiwan Central Weather Administration has called this typhoon one of the largest size that they have seen in nearly 40 years. In the fishing port where I'm standing now, we can see that fishing boat has returned to the port and then in the supermarket that Reuters has visited yesterday, some of the people have started to stock food and supply ahead of the arrival of typhoon. All the governments in where this storm path is going to pass through in Japan, China and Taiwan have urged its residents to stock up food and supply and hunker down for the next couple of days as typhoon Bavi is starting to move closer to this area. Bavi is expected to brush through the northern part of Taiwan and eventually make a landfall in China on Saturday."
