Poland and Ukraine remain united against the common threat posed by Russia, despite unresolved historical disputes, says Polish President Karol Nawrocki.
"I have come to you directly from my meeting with President Volodymyr Zelensky. There has been considerable tension surrounding Polish-Ukrainian relations recently. What has certainly not changed is that the Russian Federation remains the principal threat to both Ukraine and Poland. We share the same assessment of the threats to our independence, and that has not changed. However, we were unable to resolve our historical issues during this meeting. The feelings of the Polish people regarding the Volinia genocide are non-negotiable. At the same time, given how important this issue is to us, we expect understanding from Ukraine that the Bandera flag limits Ukraine's future in the European Union and carries negative historical associations. Issues that are non-negotiable or remain unresolved should not stand in the way of constructive dialogue on matters that unite us."
