It was Summer 2020. The world was in a strange place, in so many ways. I was invited to @inyourearstudio to represent HipHop and close out what was called The Monument Ave Special, which was a livestream event.
"All right, Lick, I'm a hip hop lyricist, artist, teacher, radio personality right here in Richmond, Virginia. What I represent is the very culture and the art of emceeing. This is currently unique times for sure, and hip hop in itself is the voice of the people. It's a universal language, a force of expression. Sometimes it's aggressive, sometimes it's sad, sometimes it's positive, but it's still the voice of the people, 100% rooted in the times past, present, and future. And what I got for you is to show you that hip hop is universal and can fit over anything and everything. Let's get it. We call this 730. 730, I turned later into early, front of the sink, brushing my pearlies, A22 is a brother to do, figure getting bigger, I'm feeling my shoes, winning to lose, penning to prove, I left the crib, I made the move, then laid some tunes and ate some food, 40 ounces of PS2, sang in Rome on CNPU, no VCU, my patience through, clean my room, but play still cool, I'm so confused, enthused, abused, amused, removed, I pick, I choose, myself dilute, search for truth, wrong to write, I write to use, my youth is group, and there's a use for dreams, and soon one afternoon, I'll answer to, advance, consume, and last, I'll whom, find this boom, myself, I know, I'm known as who, liquid black, a matter of fabric, a flag, I cut people slack, hurricane caps, a little of the rap, alone on the track, I'm taking it back, taping the craft, slinging the crack, running the blast, tip to the tick, talking my clock, socks in my heart, a season, my thought, I'm paying this on parts, a master, this art, 7.30, y'all turn late into early, like days in the dark, won't need a start, journey embarked, every blaze begins with a spark. We got right here, it's called RVA."
