Big beach updates! On July 7, the Dredge Illinois starts 24/7 sand pumping. Expect 1,000-ft closures from 1st St to Pennlyn Pl, restricted parking on Beach Rd, and no swimming at St. Charles Pl. Work moves south first, then north. #beachrestoration #beachupdate #OceanCityNJ #OCNJ
"Well, it looks like beach replenishment is going to start this week. On Tuesday morning, July 7th, the massive Dredge, Illinois is moving to the offshore barrow area and sand pumping operations are officially kicking off by tomorrow afternoon. This means that a thousand foot wide work area from First to Pennyland Place will be closed starting Tuesday. Equipment is also moving on to the Morningside Road Beach entrance. The Morningside Dude crossover is closed starting today, though the stairs to the beach will stay open. And just a heads up, beachfront parking along Beach Road is restricted for construction vehicles until the project is completely finished. At St. Charles Place, the sub-line from the offshore area is on the beach and that guarded beach is fully closed to swimming for the duration of the operation. And operations will first head south toward 12th Street for about 20 days before turning north to Great Lake Harbor Inlet. Remember, a moving two block radius around the active work area will be closed to the public at all times and sand pumping operations will run 24 hours a day. Of course, all plans depend on the weather and equipment, so dates could shift. But keep following me for more updates on this project and other sand replenishment along the coast."
