I still don’t understand why folks acted like there were no other options in the primary.
"I am also a big believer in grace. I do understand that people throughout the course of their lifetime will change and grow and hopefully become better human beings. But nobody is entitled to a seat in the U.S. Senate, one of the highest offices in the country. And the best place for all of that growth and change to happen is probably not while serving in the Senate. There are seven other Democrats currently in this race who over the course of the last 20 years have consistently exercised good judgment, who do not have a history of saying really problematic things on the Internet, and who presumably do not have Nazi tattoos on their bodies. It is weird that people are presenting this one guy as the only option. It is deeply weird. It is weird-ass behavior. And I would probably have a lot more respect for him if he had just been forthcoming and said, I was going through a really dark period of time in my life, and I was spending too much time online, and I went down the alt-right pipeline. And I believe some things that are really terrible. And I said some things that were really, really bad, and I have since learned better, I have done better, and I am deeply remorseful for all of that. But that's not what he did. Within the last week, he did an interview with Pod Save America, which I am surprised anyone allowed that to make it to my ears, where he was more angry and agitated that he was having to answer for his behavior than he seemed remorseful for it. And when they asked him about a racist thing that he said online, he basically doubled down on it. This is someone who should not be shaping policy for people across the United States. Policy that will affect people with disabilities, policy that will impact the LGBTQ community. He should not be having anything to do with the Violence Against Women Act or the Voting Rights Act because these are all groups of people that he has disparaged. There are seven other Democrats running for this seat. Several of them are policy experts and have track records and aren't problematic. And trying to say that this guy is it is just fucking weird."
