Nolan Xavier Wells. 18. The only Black teen in the group, gone from a Fourth of July boat trip off the Mississippi coast. Sadly, we've been here before. We're holding his family close and holding the line on the truth. Say his name.

"Nolan Xavier Wells, 18 years old, gone from a Fourth of July boat trip off the Mississippi coast on a horn island two days later. And I want to be honest with you, the cause of his death has not been released. I'm not here to hand you a verdict that hasn't been reached, but I'm here for the thing your timeline already knows in his body. The photos showed Nolan as the only black friend in that group, and a whole generation of us felt something old turn over in our chest because we have been here before. In 2018, Toma Horsford, a black mother, the only black woman at an all-white overnight party in Forsyth County, Georgia, was found dead in the backyard the next morning. Rule to fall. An accident. Closed, reopened, closed again. No charges. Her people are still waiting for the truth. And Forsyth County? That's the same county that ran every black resident out in 1912 and stayed that way on purpose. The land remembers. So do we. So hear me. The conversation is not he shouldn't have been there. Never that. Some have named that poison plain this week. The real question is what it costs to be the only one. Who gets searched for? Who gets believed? Whose file gets quietly closed? We hold his family in tenderness, and we hold the line on the truth. Both hands say his name. Nolan Xavier Wells."
