"The Chinese economy, as I viewed earlier this evening, on a Wednesday evening, with a million people in the Bund, imagine all that shopping, all that eating. China is vaulting from strength to strength, and that is regarded by Western leaders as an existential threat to them. You and I would argue that it isn't or needn't be, but they don't seem to agree. And so, when you look at developments in the Philippines, look at developments in Japan, in Australia, you're left wondering if indeed the big enchilada is not a coming war with China. Where do you stand on that? Yeah. I think you and I agree that China doesn't have to be an enemy of the Western world, but here's the problem, George. It's becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy. The Americans, the Western Europeans are saying China is an existential threat, and they basically are turning, or maybe even have turned China into an enemy of the Western world over the last 10 years. And that's why I am worried about tension not just being contained with the US-China trade war or the tech war, but going into a hot war, maybe in the South China Sea in the Philippines. I'm not particularly worried about Taiwan, but here's the thing, George. You see that Mark Rutte, the secretary general of NATO, he says that the world's biggest threat to NATO is not Russia, but it's China. And he says that China basically is Russia's puppet master and is undoubtedly going to force Russia to bomb NATO countries. I mean, this is kind of preposterous talk. I don't understand why Rutte is looking at China as such a threat when China is clearly trying to improve its economic relations with Germany, with Italy, with the UK, with the rest of Europe, because the economy here, even though it is strong, it's also weak at the same time. So China controls about 30% of the world's manufacturing, and they want to export China-made products into Europe. These companies like Huawei, like Xiaomi, want to open up factories in Europe. So yeah, we have to be concerned because the never-ending warmongers like Mark Rutte, like some of DC politicians, want to turn China into an enemy. It's sad because it didn't have to be this way, but we might be on the brink where there's no pulling back if Washington and Europe doesn't take a more pragmatic stand."
