Pico Lopes’ local community is setting up for a big night as his Cape Verde side prepares to face Argentina in the knockout stage of the World Cup. The Journal took a trip to the estate Lopes grew up in to see how they're preparing for the make-or-break game.
"It's a huge day for Crumlin as local hero Pico Lopez and Cape Verde prepare for a make-or-break World Cup clash against Argentina. The cul-de-sac has been transformed with Cape Verdean flags, bunting and even a giant poster of the centre-back ahead of kick-off. Friends and neighbours have rolled out their chairs, set up a projector and a gazebo as they get ready for their fourth watch party. One woman told the Journal that it feels like she's back in that 1990 era and that the community is itching for a good game. And it's not just the people of Crumlin getting behind Pico, as even Cody the dog looked ready for tonight's football antics."
