A stronger Canada starts with a stronger food system. That's why our government launched Canada's first-ever National Food Security Strategy to help lower grocery costs, strengthen competition, support Canadian farmers and producers, and get more Canadian food on more tables.

"So how many of you believe that food prices are just too damn high? We've stepped up to help with immediate support with the Canada Groceries and Essentials benefit and a national school food program but that's not enough. We need to deal with the root causes of food insecurity in Canada and that's why we've stepped up with 3.2 billion dollars of new investment into Canada's first ever national food security strategy. That strategy has five things in it. One, it supports regional food systems with food hubs, distribution processing capacity that will help independent grocery stores be more competitive. It steps up by investing in the competition bureau so you can investigate and crack down on anti-competitive behavior. We will simultaneously boost domestic food production, grow more fruits and vegetables year-round through climate-controlled agriculture and then we're cutting red tape across the supply chain. That's how you address food insecurity in the long run."
