"The purpose of canvassing is to tell people about the candidate or the priority that you're trying to push for the ballot. You can either do a community canvas or you can do door-to-door knocking. So community canvassing is kind of like, we did a lot of this with the petitions. We go out to the farmer's market, go out to the viola, if you know there's an event going on in the community, so you go to that community event and talk to all of the different attendees that are there about how amazing this candidate is or how important this canvassing is. The other one is your door-to-door canvassing. You're going to go to different people's homes, you're going to knock on their door, and same thing, you're telling them about how amazing this candidate is, how important this election is, or how important this piece of legislation is that needs to get passed. So that's the purpose of canvassing and what canvassing is. What we're really focused on right now is the door-to-door canvassing. One of the most important things that we need to do as candidates is make sure that as many people as possible know that, one, there's an election happening. Because a lot of people don't even know when the election is going to happen, especially the primary election. They may know, like, yeah, I've got to go November 3rd and vote. But, it's like, oh, you've also got to come out August 18th and vote first. So we want to make sure they know about the election. Then it's letting them know what candidate it is that you're there to canvas for them. You're going to see in the visuals out there that have those giant four-foot by eight-foot boards up, showing that they're running for office. You may even see some of these candidates put up really big billboards. Those are extremely expensive. If you want to send out a mailer through the postal service, the quote that I got was for $25,000 for one mailer to be sent out to everyone in my district. So we could either spend $25,000, which means we have to raise $25,000, to send out one piece of paper that would do the exact same thing as if we got enough volunteers to just knock all the doors in the district. Instead of having to take money from special interests, instead of taking money from PACs and from corporate developers that we know are going to destroy our community, we knock doors. And that's why candidacy is so important, too. We need our volunteers. It is so, so important that you volunteer to go out, if you can, to candidates. Because this can only be done with the right amount of people. The math, and we math so much on how many doors one person can knock between now and the election. But the more people we have, that math equals the entire district."
