When asked what he thought when opening a gift from President Erdogan, Carney said he never saw it because they keep guns away from him. The item has been decommissioned as it is not a legal firearm in Canada, and he plans to find a museum for it.

"follow-up, last question. My follow-up is what went through your mind when you opened the gift from President Erdogan? I never saw it. I would like to reassure Canadians they keep guns away from me. So I never saw it. I learned about it from I think it was Prime Minister Starmer, but we were , whatever we were talking about, we were talking about the fact that he was the Prime Minister of Canada. We were having a conversation, a few of us, and he pointed out to me that he had received this and had his name on it. So I learned about it, and of course my colleagues told me we had this. It's not what I expected. It struck me that my gift of maple syrup kind of undermatched the whatever it was, 357 gallons of maple syrup. The next thing that went through my mind was this is something for the war museum or the CAF museum or something like that where it's interesting and it relates to NATO and the bigger picture of that. So what's happened is with the RCF and the RCF and the RCF and the RCF and the RCMP. It's with the RCMP. It's been decommissioned because it's not a legal firearm in Canada. And I certainly don't have a license for it. So it's been decommissioned and we're going to find the best home for it in something like I just described. So, but, yes, it's not what I expected."
