"Well, in this difficult climate, what I would say is find your story or a character, learn to love them, find out everything you can about them, and then with passion go and try and get your idea made, whether it means trying to get any funding or commission. Don't give up on your characters, believe in your characters, because ultimately that's why we make the films, because we actually care about the people we're filming with and you've got to care. I think that's the most important thing, you've got to care, you've got to want to say something, but also in a little way you want to shift society. You always want to bring about some kind of truth, because there's so much noise, there's so much flow in this day and age, fake news, etc, etc. I think our role as documentary makers is even more important, because we're the ones who can, as I said earlier, open that little window into worlds that we may not see, and by getting into those worlds we just understand society better, but we also understand ourselves and live it better."
