"Hey, everybody. America is one nation under God. We're not one nation without God. We are one nation under God and has been that way since the very beginning of the foundation of our country. No, not from the very beginning. In fact, the words under God were not added to the Pledge of Allegiance even remotely close to the beginning of our country. Those words were added in 1954, more than 160 years after the United States were formed, and they were added during the so-called Red Scare to make the more gullible, less educated segment of the country believe what was never the intention of our founding fathers, that America should be a Christian nation. You know, like it's happening again today. But the truth is that our founding fathers had no intention of making the United States a Christian nation. That's why they created a constitution that contains absolutely no reference to Christianity, to the Bible, or even to Jesus. That's why they wrote a First Amendment that contains a very clear prohibition for the government to establish a state religion, and that's why the Treaty of Tripoli, which was negotiated by President Washington, signed by President Adams, and unanimously ratified by the Senate in 1797, explicitly states that the United States are not in any way founded on Christianity. So no, the United States are not and were never intended to be a Christian nation, but apparently it still is a nation inhabited in part, at least, by people who can be convinced of pretty much anything because of their inability to check facts. I hope this helps."
