"One of the most offensive images that I hold in my mind are the images of national monuments that are being defaced, roped, torn down, graffitied. Me too, Janine. They are an affront to the dignity of our shared history, and we will not allow our sacred monuments to be roped off, defaced, or diminished, or in any way impacted by disgruntled individuals who think that they, and not the rest of the nation, have the right to decide what should happen. Could not agree with you more, Janine. Today, the grand jury has returned a felony indictment against a defendant, David Hearn, for felony destruction of property for which he faces 10 years in prison. June 19th, he reached down into the pool. Our evidence further shows that the National Park Service employees observed Hearn actually forcefully and violently pulling up and removing the bottom liner with both hands. Do you have any tools, or is it just his bare hands? Right now, we believe it's his bare hands, both hands. He damaged the pool. Before he touched it. He damaged this pool. Any of you remember Otto Warmbier, arrested in North Korea for stealing a poster, sentenced to 15 years, hard labor, died in their custody? And we were all like, my god, what a terrible, awful dictatorship. This is, I can't believe, I don't know, man. Think we, we may be cooked. This is what scared authoritarian regimes do. Rather than acknowledge that they failed at something, they have constructed an entirely new reality, and they will arrest anyone that challenges that narrative. That is truly fucking terrifying."
