Maritimers on the East Coast probably remember this story of the 7 NFLD men who survived at sea in a raft for days after their ship, Elite Navigator, caught fire in 2024. They were rescued 52 hours at sea by Canadian Coast Guard.

"You got no time to think. Do what you got to do to live. Worry is in the air over this wharf in New West Valley. I heard Eugene bawl out fire, fire. I couldn't see nothing but smoke. And then Eugene said we ban the ship, ban the ship. We tried to get some life rafts, some suits out as Jordan King was trying to inflate the raft. Me and Harold couldn't swim, right? Harold didn't want to jump very bad at all. We told him it was either burn or try to live, right? Just when the search started, it was when we got the fog. You can't see two feet in front of you. It was just that thick. Like weird planes that were probably 100 feet away from us. Day three, I noticed that the Florida raft was getting weak. We didn't want to make anybody worry more than what they ever are. This raft ain't gonna last long enough. The boys were getting cold the last two with the suits. And so we started cuddling to each other amazingly. When I was at my lowest point in the raft, me and Jordan was pretty close friends. And he just cuddled me and said like he said, love and friendship and told me that he was going to die. He froze. I had him in my arms like a baby. Covering him and cuddling him. Keeping him warm. I opened up the door and I stuck my head in the life raft and when I looked up, there was a chopper going over my head. Coast Guard radio. All seven persons aboard the missing fishing vessel elite navigator have been located and are safe."
