"Don't get caught up in the fact that the final product will be animated and feel that you need to make your performance big in order to be seen or picked up by the technology. It can pick up whatever small thing that you're doing as an actor, even if the performance is mostly in the eyes. In the early days, you did have to be very conscious of bringing a little bit of life and movement to the character, because otherwise it kind of looked like a cardboard cutout. So still. I remember being in the volume across from this Oscar-nominated actor, and she was incredible. The performance that she was giving was unbelievable, but it was all behind the eyes. It was very subtle, and the director had to come out afterwards and say that was fantastic. It looked great on the reference cameras, but we didn't see anything on the performance capture. So you need to do a little something, make sure you have to remember to breathe and things like that. But as I said, the technology is so evolved now that it picks up on the smallest little detail, and really you just have to worry about giving the performance."
