$1.8M became $16M for a reflecting pool. No-bid contracts to Trump’s hotel buddies and donors. Meanwhile 770,000 kids lost SNAP. It’s summer. No school meals. Starving children didn’t make the priority list. A reflecting pool did. #RepublicansStarveChildren
"Well, you really can't make this stuff up. The reflecting pool renovations are now going to cost more than 16 million dollars. Remember, Trump first said that this project would cost about 1.8 million dollars. Then he gave a no-bid contract to someone who had done some work at one of his hotels for 6.9 million, already quite a bit higher. Then the Interior Department increased the contract, why? We're not sure. By 6.2 million, bringing the total cost to 13 million. Then Trump also gave a no-bid contract to one of his donors for 1.7 million dollars to do like a nano-filtering thing, which was supposed to stop the algae. Which puts us at 16, and counting, because look where we are now. Anyway, MSNOW asked some passersby how they feel about these renovations, and they have thoughts. The pool is perfectly fine. We wasted all this money to, I guess, make it better, but it's not better. It's a crazy scene. What a waste. I've been riding by this reflecting pool for decades. I just can't believe that we are spending our money this way, when there's so many higher priorities in health care, child care, closing the budget deficit. I mean, there's a million places we could spend this money. We have a tremendous amount of need in the country currently, whether you call it affordability or just the ability to pay your bills. In other news, ProPublica just reported that more than 770,000 children are no longer receiving SNAP benefits after Trump and Republicans gutted that program. Priorities, am I right?"
