Persistent heavy rainfall since July 3 has caused severe flooding and unleashed surges of water, prompting officials in Nanning home to nine million people to put the region on high alert. Social media footage obtained by Reuters shows flood water pouring into a construction site in the city of Guigang, east of Nanning. According to China's official Xinhua news agency, dangerous conditions have been reported at several reservoirs in the region, with torrential rains set to continue. Rescue efforts are underway as teams work to try and evacuate residents stranded by flooding."
