Update: Committee votes “no” to Stittsville West Urban Expansion glengower.ca/development/

"Hey there, it's Glenn. I'm out here on Fernbank Road just west of Stittsville. You can see the development sign behind me. I wanted to give you an update on the Stittsville West expansion proposal. This is to add land north and south of Fernbank Road to the urban boundary. And it's some good news. Yesterday, a planning committee rejected the application to extend the urban boundary. Now, it's got to go to City Council next week, but I have zero concerns there. I'm confident City Council will reject it as well. And I want to thank residents who took the time to write in, to email the city planners on this, and to residents who came out yesterday to the committee to delegate on the file. It really does make a difference and helps give me more leverage as a City Councilor as well. But I also wanted to give you a heads up that this battle isn't over, although it's good to see a rejection this time around. Watch next year, 2027. That's when the City is going to be updating its official plan and its population and growth management projections. We have to follow a provincial process to do that. And it's quite likely it'll result in needing more suburban expansion land. Now, we don't know where that'll be. It could be east of Ottawa, west of Ottawa, south of Ottawa, near the suburban areas. But no doubt this land will be in play during that process. So we still need to stay engaged as a community heading into 2027. Definitely a file to keep your eyes on. I'll keep posting updates to my website. Thanks for watching."
