There will never be another cat like Freddie. I was loved by him unconditionally at times when I needed it more than he could possibly know. Or maybe he did know. Because he was a total goof but he wasn’t stupid.

Everyone on our street knew him. He would do the rounds daily like a visiting dignitary. They all loved him. It was impossible not to. Several of my friends would say “I’m not a cat person” before being won over by Freddie.

Mum brought Freddie home as a tiny kitten when I was 21. We were instantly best friends. If I ever went away for a few weeks he'd be absolutely glued to me for days after I returned. Always happy, always purring, always wanting to hang out with new people, particularly if they had food.
