Shachi Kurl tears into Pierre Poilievre: "This is the beginning of the end. It's not a matter of if, but when. At some point, Conservative Universe is going to take a long look at this leader and say, 'Is this the guy to take us into the next federal election?'"
"This is a leader who doesn't want to be saved. This is a leader who on the day of the pipeline announcement referred to people who were opposed to the BC tanker ban as a radical group of fake environmentalists. It actually, in fact, is a group of two in five British Columbians, many of whom would, in other circumstances, possibly be open to voting conservative or had voted conservative in the past. Now you look at this thing with Carolyn Elliott. Now, I had said, not in nearly as nasty a way, but the hype around Corey Tenik's involvement in the campaign and it somehow being perceived, at least in Ottawa, in the early parts of that BC conservative leadership campaign, like a coronation for Ms. Elliott. And I remember saying, you know, he's not necessarily the magic gold dust in BC that he might be perceived to be in Ontario. But, like, this is just so unnecessary for a leader whose negative ratings, whose unfavorable views are at 60% while his favorable views are at 33% and trending down. This is so unnecessary and off-topic and off-message. When you consider the fact that, you know, he's nowhere above 40% favorability with any single age or gender demographic. He doesn't even have 34 to 55-year-old men. So who's he got? And now we're going to start picking internal battles among ourselves. Like, you know, Pierre, you do you, brah, but I'm not sure what the point is here because it's not just that he's alienating people within the conservative party and it's not just that he said it today. This is a sustained pattern of Mr. Poliev being who he wants to be, saying what he wants to say, and seemingly not really caring about the fact that if he needs to bring the conservatives across this magic line wherein you can form government, which is something the party has not done, the better part of 20 years now, more than 20 years. You know, this is something that, sorry, I said 20 years. I meant 15, but anyway, you get my point. Yeah, yeah, 2015. But the broader point being, like, the party's been in the cold for a while. Yeah. But this is also a leader who doesn't care. I said at the beginning, post this past election, last year, you know, this is the beginning of the end. It's not a matter of if, but when. I don't think it's going to happen anytime soon, but at some point, conservative universe is going to take a long look at this leader and say, is this the guy to take us into the next federal election? And I still think that that over-under on it being him is not certain."
