"We're learning more about the hundreds of people arrested or cited after 4th of July celebrations in Newport Beach descended into chaos. More than half were out of state. Orange County reporter Bianca Bono is live in Newport. Bianca, what can you tell us? Well, of those cited and arrested from out of state, the majority were from Arizona. Charges range from alcohol and firework related offenses to disorderly conduct to resisting police. The city of Newport Beach still reeling from the weekend chaos when thousands of minors and young adults swarmed the shores, prompting police on the peninsula to close down the coast. Saturday was just insane. Richard Tavano says he's been coming to his home in Newport from Las Vegas for decades and says while the 4th of July is always busy, he's never witnessed anything quite like last weekend. Let the mayhem be out there because you're not gonna ever be able to stop it unless you close Newport down. It didn't allow anybody but residences to be here. Tavano says the chaos continued when crowds flooded into the streets and nearby shopping centers where pavilions grocery store was ransacked. He knows of a few people who were detained for unlawful assembly. They were among hundreds of others. New data shows police arrested or cited 353 people of those 161 were from California and the rest from out of state. As far as the Netherlands and Ontario, 145 of them were from Arizona. 37 people were arrested, 25 of them juveniles. In total, only 14 people cited or arrested throughout the weekend were from Newport Beach, lighting off fireworks, jumping on cars. I mean, it was like honestly scary. Police say more than 350 officers responded to the scene to restore order as locals returned to a sense of normalcy. While it's unclear what it will look like, many are calling for change. Just, you know, to kind of wonder how many people are getting onto the peninsula would probably be like a great thing to try to like implement. And at one point on Saturday, the situation became so chaotic and frankly dangerous that many business owners along the peninsula had to close down on what would have been one of their busiest days of the year. We are hearing from two of those business owners coming up at five o'clock reporting live in Newport Beach. Bianca Bono, ABC seven eyewitness news."
