The #1 homepage mistake I see when I audit local businesses: leading with "We started in 1850 and love plumbing." Meanwhile the visitor's water heater just exploded. Match their intent first: "We fix exactly what just happened to you, 24/7." Then tell your story.
"A big issue on homepages that I see when I auto people's websites and see what they've got going on currently is like, let's say a plumber, you'll land on their homepage and they're like, welcome to John's Plumbing, like my great grandpa started this company in 1850 and we all love each other so much and plumbing is so fun. And then the person reading it's like, that's great, but like my water heater just exploded all over my basement. Can you fix it? Or like, you just want to tell me about your grandpa? And so that's not to say don't do that, that's just to say that paragraph one of the homepage is not a good place to do that. So if I Google third generation or multi-generation plumbing company, I would want that about page to show and I want to read all about you."
