"If fireworks are a part of your Fourth of July plans, officials want to make sure you're celebrating safely. Hi everyone, it's Jackie Gunther covering the Gulf Coast here at St. Carlos Park Fire District talking about fire safety this year. Now I know a lot of you guys love fireworks. It's one of my favorite parts of the holidays, but there's things that you need to do before to make sure that you are prepared in case anything goes wrong. So the first thing is always have a bucket of water and a hose nearby and after you're done with your fireworks or sparklers, be sure to put them out in water before throwing them away to prevent a fire from starting. The Florida Forest Service says although there has been a significant amount of rain in the past couple of days, there is still a high chance of wildfires starting. So that's why they're reminding people to use fireworks in a clear open area and stay away from homes, trees and dry vegetation and to always keep a bucket of water or a hose nearby. Also be sure to check your local rules regarding fireworks and of course if anything does go wrong, do not hesitate to call 911. From Gulf Coast News to you, have a happy and safe Fourth of July weekend."
