It appears that immigration officers stripped him of any form of ID after he was shot and eventually transferred to the hospital, which led to him being classified as a John Doe. As you could imagine, being able to claim their father's body is a priority for his children right now. According to LULAC representatives, they are making them jump through hoops to be able to complete this process. They also want to be able to get his phone back, any other items, other belongings that he had, his tools, as well as the van that he was driving. And there is a call to preserve all evidence in this case, to make sure that evidence is preserved for further investigations. So not only is this family already suffering after the head of their household was fatally shot by an immigration officer here in Houston, but now they have to deal with all of the difficulties that they are experiencing to be able to claim his body.
