📚 @governor.ca.gov Gavin Newsom's 2026-2027 budget delivers for CA: • More paid family leave for teachers • Increased special education funding • Investments in community schools • Expanded dual enrollment opportunities • Strengthening the teacher pipeline, especially for bilingual educators
"have historic investments like never before. To address the teacher pipeline issue, we are now going to be offering teachers paid family leave with pregnancy leave that was not available before. 14 weeks so that teachers can actually enter the profession and know that they can actually start a family. That's important and significant. We are offering funding like never before on special education. Something that I know Dr. Patel, who is a colleague of mine, will talk more about, but that was significant. She cares so much about that. She's elevated that, and that's why we have this type of investment. We have investments in community schools, which many Californians have heard about, and if you haven't, get ready to hear about it soon, because it's coming to all of the communities in California that want to engage in supporting our students in wraparound services in ways that haven't been supported before, because we know that the challenges that students are facing today are even more difficult than the challenges that I faced in our California school system some decades ago, and they continue to get more challenging, and these investments will make sure to address that. Lastly, I'll talk about as a father of two kids in public education, a middle schooler and a high schooler now, two things in particular that I'm proud to see in here, the reimagining of middle schools and high schools, which we must do in order to stay on top of the ever-changing landscape of the workers, the workforce, and the industries that exist in California, to be able to maintain our competitiveness as California. We need to make sure that we are educating students in the way that they need to learn, which is different than the way it was even just a few years ago. And lastly, for high school students, as a parent of a high school student, the investment in dual enrollment so that as many students as possible can have college credits as high school students so they can enter college or university a little bit ahead and perhaps get into a little less debt when they get into university. Dual enrollment is something available now that will be expanded through more places in California. If you're a parent, make sure you're asking about this at your school. And then lastly, as an English learner, someone who picked up the language in school, couldn't be more proud of all of the work in this budget to invest in our teacher pipeline, particularly in the subject areas that are difficult to find the right workforce, especially in bilingual education. Very proud of that, and I wanna thank."
